A solar power station will be built in Alice Springs with $3.3 million in federal government money.

Environment Minister Peter Garrett announced the funding on Wednesday, saying it would pay for half the power station.

 

Melbourne-based company Solar Systems will start building the power station in February. It is expected to generate more than 1800 megawatt hours of energy each year.
