I have heard of government solar rebates being offered. Will I be able to claim them?
There are a number of Government rebates to support the installation of solar panels. We first assess our customers to make sure they are eligible for them. Following which, we assist them with the application forms and do all the paperwork.
Is there just one type of solar system or are there many?
Two types of solar power systems are on offer. They are standalone and grid connect. Grid connect solar power systems supply solar electricity either through an inverter directly to the home or through the electricity grid if the solar power system is providing more energy than the home needs. Whereas standalone systems usually operate in remote areas, away from power supply lines or where supply is unreliable. Electricity generated by the solar power system is usually stored in a battery bank consisting of deep cycle batteries, which are suited for what is called repeated partial charge and discharge.
Why should I switch to solar?
Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy sources will never run out. The solar power systems generally require less maintenance than traditional generators. As their “fuel” is derived from natural and available resources, it reduces operational costs.
But more importantly, renewable energy produces little or no pollution. Which means it has minimal impact on the environment.
Can anything affect the level of electricity I receive?
This depends on the time of year, day, and the latitude of the generation point. The amount of solar energy generated can be further affected by the amount of dust and water vapour in the air. This also includes the amount of cloud cover.
How are the solar panels installed?
They are usually mounted on the roof of your house, shed or garage. But provisions can be made where they can be mounted on the ground. A north facing roof at 30° is optimum however orientation within 45° east or west of north results only in marginal power losses. Our engineers design solar array frames that can be installed on almost any roof to maintain optimum tilt and orientation of the solar panels.
How does energy from the sun get converted to electricity?
This can be achieved by installing an inverter. It converts DC electricity into 240V AC. Inverters can be a single centralised unit or you can have one inverter per solar panel. Solar power systems are so versatile, that they can generate both AC and DC, and can be expanded to grow with your needs.
Is there much maintenance?
Very little -- apart from keeping the solar panels clean of course. All Australsun panels are guaranteed for 25 years.
What happens when there’s a blackout?
The Australsun solar power system is designed to automatically shut down when this happens. This is because the electricity supply authority requires that your system be isolated from the grid for safety reasons. However batteries can be installed so that power is available even when the grid fails.
In the event of a blackout, the batteries automatically take over, supplying uninterrupted power to your house. Batteries can be purchased from us. Please ask us about them prior to installing your system.
